ARCH1142 - Architecture in Motion - Third Workshop: Storyboard

During the third workshop, we were asked to present our storyboard to the tutors for assessment. Afterwards, we spent the remainder of the time drawing up the frames that were to go between the key frames.

In this session, the tutors explained to the class more about animation. We then individually presented our ideas and concept for the animation we were to work on for the final two weeks. The remainder of the time was then spent on developing the storyboard for presentation in the following week.

ARCH1142 - Architecture In Motion - First Workshop: Introduction

In the first workshop for Archicture in Motion, we were introduced to the workshop by our tutors Steve Preece and Olivia Shih. After the introduction, we moved to the stairs of the Red Centre Building and were told to do sketches of 2, 5 and 15 minutes duration. We were then divded into groups and had to create a poster combining our sketches with those of other group members. Olivia and Paola directed us to emphasise the links between the sketches by outlining certain flowing lines with charcoal.

ARCH1142 - Material Modeling - Fourth Workshop: 3D Explosion

For our final workshop in Material Modeling, we were allocated time to assemble our final 3D model to be made of balsa wood. I had chosen the word "Freedom" to base the concepts of my model on. With advice from Paola, I made free-form stairs that supported a raised platform. Four tilted pillars also supported the platform, which exposed the space created beneath the platform. These two features represent freedom as freedom to me suggests being free, exposed to the world without any restraints. Finally, the arcs that span over the platform illustrates freedom as they appear to be one arc when viewed from an angle, but are actually two independent arcs that are free from supporting each other.

We were then asked to present our model, along with the A2 poster we prepared at home.

ARCH1142 - Material Modeling - Third Workshop: Body, Space, City

In this class, we were given time to assemble our 3D response to our bodily expereince in a particular site in the city. I had chosen to illustrate my expereince in Circular Quay. A detailed explanation of the concepts of my model is given in the image attached to this post.

ARCH1142 - Material Modeling - Second Workshop: Text and Form Entwined

We were give time in class to assemble the A3 extruded model utilising mountboard. I had chosen the artist Borgelt and her work Liquid Light, and the text The Fold by Gilles Deleuze as inspiration for my model. I had attempted to portray the idea of a change in every fold, therefore my model showed a square-based pyramid evolving into a cube as their geometric nets unfolded and reformed. Additionally I portrayed the idea of seeing a different form of the model as you view it from differing angles, as seen in Borgelt's work.











We were asked also to spend some time in the city, in our own time, and select a certain site in which we were to explore our bodily expereince in the form of an A3 extruded model in the following week workshop.

ARCH1142 - Material Modeling - First Workshop: Automatic Exploration

In this workshop, we were asked to sketch on sheets of A3 paper our immediate response to the words: Memory, Dream, Terror, Desire, Confinement and Anxiety. Completing each drawing in 20 minutes, we were then asked to present our best drawing to the class. Afterwards, our tutors Catherine Donnelley and Nikolina Bobic introduced to us a number of architects and artists from which we would be inspired from and relate our ideas in next week's A3 extruded 3D response.
